Text:  1 Timothy 1:12-17

Sermon in a sentence:  We are all hypocrites—it is only a question of degree!

Key thought:  All Christians are hypocrites because we hold up a standard of moral perfection that none of us perfectly live.

Two aspects of every Christian's experience—

#1  Every Christian has a PAST story—verses 12-14.

       Two facets of every Christian's story—

  • My sin, ignorance and unbelief—verses 12-13.

  • God's grace, love and generous gift of faith—verse 14.

 

#2  Every Christian has a PRESENT battle—verses 15-17.

       Three declarations every Christian must be willing to make—

  • "I am still a sinner"—verse 15.

  • "God is immensely patient with me"—verse 16.

  • "God gets the credit for any good I accomplish"—verse 17.
